Q&A WITH KAEY MAXX
What do you do?
I’m a song writer, recording artist and a music producer. I make feel good music either hip hop/RnB or Afro pop beats. My music sends out a positive message, therefore when you listen to it your mood changes. I’m all about motivating and hyping people up to give them hope and a reason to live or not quit whatever they are putting their focus onto. I’m also into production. I produced most of my instrumentals including the ones I’ve released so far.
Why did you decide to become a musician?
You know, being honest with you, the main reason I became an artist was because I want to change the situation at home with my talent. In my years of writing music, I have observed that our generation is more into depression. Even most artists release sad hip hop songs, so I wanted to do something different which is feel good music. Take for example my song “Go Hard” sends out a sad message but I explained it in a vibey way now people dance to it,thats unique. I decided to start making feel good music at 2019 while at high school.
What is the one thing you hate about the music industry?? What is the one thing you love about the it??
I wouldn’t use the word hate to describe what I don’t like about it but all in all, there is a large disconnection of artists in terms of collaborations. Its rare to find a collaboration from a big artist from the city and a good talented artist from another town(Jwaneng, Bobonong etc). Artists in Gabs work with artists in Gabs, artists outside Gabs work as themselves as well. It’s rare to find such collaborations and that has to stop because there’s no way the music industry is gonna grow.We need to have the “Lift as you rise” mentality.
Despite all that, we see some of the musicians and comedians working together to archive growth. That’s some positive vibes.
What memorable responses have you had to your work?
During my first performance,I really didn’t think people were gonna sing along but surprisingly they did man.I heard the crowd doing that and that really showed me that I’m on the right path.
What is an artistic outlook on life?
The way I view things, helping someone is the same as helping yourself. Even if you don’t benefit from it atleast you now understand it more. SA hip hop lives in a “Lift as you rise” industry that’s why every local hip hop artist this side wanna relocate. Why don’t we just do the same and cut feeling threatened?
What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned?
If there’s anything that I have leant from my experience is that never go for free services. The delay is something else so its better off you pay your stacks and get a better service on time.
What are three interesting facts about you?
Everything about me is interesting dawg😂but I would say;
• I enjoy helping people
• You would never get bored when you around me
• If somebody came through for me I also gotta do the same for others
What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with, but you just don’t get the point of?
A state where by people be arguing on which album/song/artist is the best in whatsoever. I’m the guy who would listen to them all and pick my favorite song from each.
Who do you work with?
I work with whoever is passionate about what he or she is doing. Its all about dedication.
Which projects have you work on? The ones you think are your best to date.
So far I have released two singles, ‘Go Hard’ and ‘Bestie,’ and got featured on a couple of songs. I worked on a few with artists from BW, USA and SOUTH AFRICA and without a doubt I would say Go Hard was the best song I ever made.Yall should check it out.
