Q&A
Can you tell us more about you as an artist and your background?
I am a producer, a recording artist, and an aspiring singer/rapper. I come from the north, but grew up in Phikwe, Gaborone and Francistown. Music has always been a meaningful part of my life, although I was not very good at it. It took a lot of time and practice for me to be able to make bearable music. I am still in a journey of self-discovery and improvement whilst enjoying the process.
When did you join the industry?
I started pursuing music professionally in 2015 within a group called IceColdMob, we had somewhat of a big break later on in 2019, thanks to the song ‘About You’ featuring ATI, which I also produced, mixed and mastered.
How did this talent of yours get discovered and when was that?
I learnt everything I know now and I am still in the learning process.
Which genres have you dabbled in?
The genres I have worked on are Hip Hop Rap, R&B, Electronic Dance Music (Progressive House and Future Bass), Pop and Afro pop.
You have managed to become well established as an artist through the Botswana’s biggest music group Ice Cold Mod but late last year parted ways, why?
We had different visions, missions that we could not combine and work with to push the group forward, which left it in a stagnant state. There was no common ground to work on and therefore we decided to pursue different paths.
Will the group continue giving fans the music they have come to love?
Yes indeed I do believe so.
Now as a solo artist what are your aspirations?
My aspirations are still the ones I have always had, to become one of the best producers/artists in the global sense.
Do you think it will be any different being solo?
Not really, but of course the stage will be bigger and the performances will be longer, but the work will still be as hard as it was.
How have your fans reacted to your parting ways with the group?
They were sad of course but surprisingly supportive, which I genuinely appreciate.
Do you think music in Botswana is growing at the moment?
In terms of talent, quality, skill and quantity, yes it very much is.
What about achievements and awards, what have you won and achieved thus far?
As a solo, nothing yet, with my ex group, just 2 YAMAs. An achievement would be the seemingly strong support from my fans who I genuinely appreciate.
Which is your biggest achievement of them?
The support I have from my fans.
Do you aspire to work with any international artists?
Very much. And I will at some point in time.
So what are you cooking up at the moment?
I am working more on getting visuals out.
