FORBES HAND PICKED DELEGATE
DENNIS OTUKILE
As children, we grow up having dreams of what we want to be when we are older. Some even go the extra mile to make sure they achieve them by working extra hard at school and thriving in life.
That is no different from what a 24-year-old Mahalapye-born Dennis Otukile did. He is an ambitious, free-minded traveler who is intrigued by meeting new people and learning from different cultures.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
Currently staying in Pretoria, South Africa studying Grade 3 instructors rating, Dennis holds many talents under his belt. He is a pilot, graphic designer, producer, DJ, manages his big artist D-Axis and a marketing manager at Point A to Z Travel Design.
“I want to teach people how to fly planes because I am already a private pilot working towards my commercial pilot license,” says Otukile.
Dennis also runs a Cargo based Company with his father called Eagle One Air which involves the air movement of goods.
ELECTRO FEST LOGISTICS AND EVENTS
Having started his business in 2018, Otukile’s aim was to get Electronic dance music celebrated in Botswana.
“I saw the need to start it up and push Electronic dance music in Botswana and across other countries,” he says.
The logistics division of the company involves artists and their performances, moving them from one event to the other on time. So far Electro Fest Logistics and Events manages D-Axis, who is a BOMU award nominee for Best Album. He has worked and featured Amantle Brown, Chrispin the drummer, Zeus, Mjamaica, Bafana Ba, Baxon, Mapetla, and Dintleonthetrack just to name a few.
“Time to time I have songs which chart on Duma FM and Yarona FM being Hololo featuring Mapetla which won a Spar competition for most requested song. No-way featuring Baxon, Grateful featuring Dintleonthetrack, and Sphelele which are on high rotation on both local radio station and in South Africa, ” he adds.
Dennis, as the founder of Electro Fest, has worked alongside big events, brands, and companies including Orange Botswana, O3 Beverages, and Clap your hands. The list goes down to include Africa Attire On fleek, Botswana Colour Run, Homecoming, Chill step, Yarona FM, Duma FM, and President DJ competitions just to name a few.
“D-Axis has performed alongside South African heavyweights like Simmy and Sun-El Musician,” adds Otukile.
He has a following of 25,000 on Instagram and 12,000 on Facebook alone as an entertainer.
BEING A FORBES 30 UNDER 30 DELEGATE
As a Stanford Go to Market Nominee with the assistance from De Beers, Dennis found himself amongst a nominee list for Forbes 30 Under 30 summit.
“I was just researching about Forbes two weeks before I got nominated. I never applied for anything. Even today I’m still shocked as I thought it would happen when I am 28 years old. I guess I was hand-picked” he adds.
Being an African Forbes 30 Under 30 delegate was a networking adventure of opportunity for Otukile. He mingled and set down with individuals who have been in the entrepreneurial space for a longer period. He was given an opportunity to be heard and to explain his business concept which allowed an exchange of wisdom, financial assistance, and mentorship for growth.
“I embraced the networking opportunity with Forbes and appreciated how Batswana hosted other young African Forbes delegates. Truly it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Dennis.
MULTI-TASKING TIPS
“For you to be able to get anywhere in life you have to surround yourself with people who have the same mindset as yours, goal driven. Also always consider time management,” concludes Dennis.
