BSB Successfully Lists Bond on Botswana Stock Exchange
Botswana Savings Bank (BSB), an indigenous institution wholly owned by the Government of Botswana, has recently made a historic and significant milestone by successfully listing a bond worth P1 billion on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday, January 23rd, 2023. This listing represents a significant step forward for BSB as it looks to strengthen its capital base in order to support lending to retail, small and medium-sized enterprises, and corporates, while also diversifying its product and market portfolio.
The bond issuance was facilitated by Stanbic Bank Botswana Limited through its Stanbic Financial Services subsidiary, which acted as Lead Arranger and Advisor to BSB. The note program facilitated BSB’s successful debut issuance across various tenors, which were listed on the BSE.
This listing is in line with BSB’s Lesedi 2025 strategy and cements the pathway towards the attainment of the bank’s vision: “To be the leading Botswana-owned integrated financial services provider.” The listing of the bond on the BSE further solidifies BSB’s brand equity in the market and reaffirms the bank’s commitment to the community and the country as a trusted financial partner.
In addition to its listing on the BSE, BSB is also a member of the World Savings Bank Institute, an association of Savings Banks represented in over 90 countries worldwide. The bank is governed by an Independent Board of Directors, which reports to the Group Board of Directors and is supervised by the Central Bank under the custodian of Ministry of Transport and Communications. BSB is also required to carry out its business according to sound commercial principles and in accordance with the Banking Act of 1995.
Overall, the listing of BSB’s bond on the Botswana Stock Exchange is a significant step forward for the bank, and it is an exciting time for BSB as it looks to continue to grow and solidify its position as a leading financial institution in Botswana.
