Drawing Modeling Visual Arts

ARTIST OF MULTIPLE TALENTS

Among the many artistically brilliant young people in the land of Botswana is the very versatile Winnie Karabo Moalosi. Winnie has an innate talent for drawing potraits using coloured pencils. She started drawing when she was around 8 years old as she recalls.

Young Winnie had felt the urge to just start drawing and has not stopped since. She has for many years used her drawings as a way to relax or as a pastime. Moalosi chose Art classes at Junior & Senior Secondary School in order to hone her natural skills of artistic excellence in the fine arts. She says that by taking lessons on different forms of art, it gave her the opportunity to realise and explore the many different areas she could excel at and which aspect of art she loved and enjoyed more than others.

For much of her time growing up, Winnie focused her energy in school and her career as a professional model where she has made great strides. “Modelling has allowed me to work with a couple of photographers, designers and also got me featured in one of the early editions of Celebrity World Magazine. I also love that it blends well with my art which can easily be used in the talent sections of pageants that I’m competing in, plus I get to meet my favourite celebrities when I draw their potraits. It is in a way fulfilling.” she said.

Having gone professional into the professional modelling world in 2016 where she participated in the Miss Boitekanelo pageant and going all the way to become a TOP 5 finalist. She was in the following year asked to be a judge in the Miss Ministry of Health pageant. This move further propelled her to reach greater milestones in her career as model. In the years that followed, Winnie entered the Miss Botswana Bikini Model in the years 2017/2018 season where she was crowned Queen. The award afforded her the opportunity to represent Botswana at the Miss Africa Continent pageant in the 2018/2019 season in Johannesburg, South Africa. In this pageant she was a Top 7 finalist. In 2018 she entered the Summer Fashion & Style Show & Awards where she was awarded the title and award for Overall Face of Summer. Moalosi has in this year (2021) entered the Miss Christian Botswana competition where she was a Top 5 finalist.

Since then she took the role of a dedicated student and song minister at her local church denomination, Assemblies of God Botswana. Doubling as an occasional drawer and writer, she is most passionate about her modelling than most of her other talents. At least for the time-being as she continues with her studies that she currently gives most of her attention.

While many youth are uncertain of their future plans especially considering the pandemic and everything it has brought with it, young Miss Moalosi has plans to venture full time into the drawing and the writing arts, mentioning that she sees her potential in the arts as sources of income in the future especially coupled with her modelling career and other personal investments. Winnie Karabo Moalosi is an artist of multiple talents that are yet to be unearthed and being a young Motswana, proud of her heritage, she stands tall in representing the values the nation stands for.
